The Camp Ripan Model

In Kiruna, where unique nature meets a city in constant transformation, you will find Camp Ripan. Our business is deeply rooted in nature and the local culture, and we are committed to working as sustainably as possible. To ensure the protection and preservation of our unique landscape, we have developed the Camp Ripan Model, our comprehensive sustainability strategy.

Three Pillars

The model is built on three pillars—social responsibility, local engagement, and climate consciousness—and aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. We believe in taking responsibility and inspiring others to do the same so that, together, we can preserve our Arctic environment for future generations.

Social Responsibility

As vital as miners are to Kiruna, our staff is to us. We invest in our employees to create long-term, secure jobs and opportunities for career development, contributing to decent work conditions and economic growth in our region. By providing training in both sustainability and social issues, we ensure a safe work environment where everyone is treated fairly and with respect. Our goal is for all employees to feel included and valued, reflecting our commitment to Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Local Engagement

Lika viktig som renen är för den samiska kulturen, är våra lokala Just as the reindeer is essential to Sami culture, local partnerships are vital to us. We actively support local producers and preserve the city’s culture and identity by promoting local food, design, crafts, and traditions. By offering experiences that educate about our three cultures, we foster a deeper understanding and respect for Kiruna’s unique heritage. Our local initiatives also include contributions to associations and organizations that promote well-being and activity. We see it as our mission to strengthen the local economy by collaborating with local businesses and promoting sustainable tourism, contributing to Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Climate Consciousness

As natural as cloudberries are in Tornedalian cuisine, so are our efforts to reduce our climate impact. We are Swan eco-labeled, use organic and sustainable materials, rescue food, reduce waste, compost leftovers, and conserve energy and water to protect our fragile Arctic environment. This aligns perfectly with Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. By implementing resource-efficient solutions and spreading knowledge about sustainability to both guests and staff, we contribute to combating climate change, as outlined in Goal 13: Climate Action.

Nature and culture are what draw visitors to Camp Ripan, and it is our duty to protect what we offer. Increased tourism must not lead to the disappearance of the very reasons to visit.
