Wine tasting

Welcome to an enlightening wine tasting at Camp Ripan, where we offer a multifaceted journey through the world of wine, tailored for groups together with our knowledgeable sommelier, Hanna Karkea. The wine tasting can take place in Andrummet, the restaurant, or one of our conference rooms.

Our wine tastings are designed to suit all tastes and interests, from the curious beginner to the seasoned enthusiast, with your preferences setting the boundaries! Would you prefer a free session where our sommelier has free rein, or would you rather focus specifically on either white or red wines, Champagne, a bubbly session with sparkling wines, or a deep dive into a specific grape variety? No request is too small or too difficult, and regardless of preferences, we will only offer organic or biodynamic wines. We also have ready-made, popular concepts such as:

What is wine?

Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes or other fruits. The unique process of fermentation chemistry evokes a variety of flavors and aromas that characterize each wine. We explore the basics of wine, from its historical roots in ancient civilizations to its role in modern culture and society.

Winemaking is an art form as well as a science. We take you through each step of the process – from harvesting and crushing the grapes, through fermentation, aging, and finally bottling. You will gain insight into how different winemaking techniques affect the flavor profile and quality of the wine.

The wine world is dynamic, with constantly emerging trends and currents. We discuss current trends such as the increasing demand for organic and biodynamic wines, experimental grape varieties, and innovative production methods. We also highlight how climate changes are affecting wine production globally and the new wine regions emerging as a result of these changes.

Food and Wine Pairing

Choosing the right wine for a meal can transform a good meal into an extraordinary culinary experience. In this session, we explore the art of pairing wine and food, focusing on how the basic tastes of food and wine interact to enhance the overall experience.

Each dish and wine carry distinct flavors that can complement or contrast with each other in exciting ways. We delve into the five basic tastes – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami – and learn how these can be balanced between food and wine to create harmony on the plate and in the glass.

Choosing wine for food is not just about following established rules but also about personal taste and daring to experiment. We encourage trying different combinations and discovering what works best for your preferences.

During the session, you will receive practical tips and advice on how to best choose wine for various types of dishes, from simple everyday meals to festive occasions. We believe that knowledge of pairing wine and food is not just a way to enhance the meal but also an opportunity to share and enjoy food and drink together with others.

Region

Here we take an exciting journey to a specific country or area with its particular winemaking traditions and wine types that characterize the selected area or country. This is a perfect opportunity for the knowledgeable to broaden your wine knowledge and discover new favorites.

Every wine-producing region carries a rich history and unique methods of winemaking, which are reflected in the taste and character of the wine. We take you on a discovery journey where you learn about the specific climatic conditions, soil, and grape varieties that shape the wines from the chosen area.

From powerful reds to fresh whites and everything in between – each region has its signature wines. We taste a handpicked selection of wines that represent the best of the region while you gain insight into how each wine type is produced and what makes them unique.

This session is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the chosen area’s or country’s wine production. You will not only learn about the winemaking process but also how to identify different flavor notes and aromas, which gives a deeper appreciation and understanding for every sip.
