A scenic hike awaits at Nakeri, a mountain situated right next to Torneträsk train station. The climb quickly rewards with fantastic views of Torneträsk, making it perfect for a day trip. Though steep, the payoff comes swiftly, making it ideal for families.
You can turn back at any point, adjusting the difficulty based on company or form. For those interested, you can carry a fishing rod and make it all the way to the lake, about 3 km one way, with 1.5 km steeply uphill. It generally takes about 1.5 hours at a normal walking pace to reach the lake.
Drive from Kiruna towards Narvik, turn left at Torneträsk, and park at the train station. Here, you start your hike, passing under a viaduct and then a wildlife fence that leads up the mountain.
Tips!
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, bring water and something light to eat. There are many beautiful spots to stop and have a picnic along the way.
