As more and more visitors choose to travel to Kiruna, we need to set higher standards for sustainability within the industry. Those of us working in tourism share a responsibility to ensure that our attractive environment is preserved for future generations, and that increased tourism doesn’t cause the very things that draw visitors here to disappear or be destroyed.<\/p>\n
In March 2018, Camp Ripan, together with three other companies, Icehotel<\/a> and Nutti S\u00e1mi Siida<\/a>, were among the first companies to join the Sustainable Arctic Destination network. It’s a collaboration between tourism businesses in Kiruna, initiated by Kiruna Lappland<\/a>, where participating companies carry out a baseline assessment of their operations, set goals for their sustainability work, and engage in ongoing improvement and follow-up.<\/p>\n The goal is for us to find, together, a balance where tourism contributes to improved social and economic conditions while preserving environmental, natural, and cultural values. Through this collaboration, we want more and more companies to work with sustainability in a structured way, and for sustainability to become a natural and central part of the tourism industry’s strategy in Kiruna.<\/p>\n
