We are travelling from Camp Ripan towards the little village Nikkaluokta, beautifully located at the very end of the road. This is the last resort of civilization about 70 km west of Kiruna, and also the turning point of our expedition. We are travelling through the arctic nature, where only the road that follows the majestic Kalix River and occasional small villages are the only evidence of human presence. More frequent than humans out here during the polar night are the mighty moose. We observe the wild animals in their natural habitat. The aim is a close up meeting with this impressing animal, and of course your guide will make sure all guests gets out of the minibus for very interesting observations of the animals in the wild, you will be equipped with a pair of binoculars that your guide will make sure are adjusted and well focused before the tours begins. We are also going to see the frozen river from the best place imaginable: The river itself. At places, local people prepare ice roads on the river that easily holds the weight of a truck – since the ice usually reaches a thickness well over 50 cm, or 20 inches. Your local guide knows where the best iceroads are located, and will make sure to try one out. We will get out of the bus and it is recommended that you bring some photo device. Ask your guide for a group picture, if he has not already volunteered.
A stop over in a timber cabin for hot drinks, a snack i front of an open fire is also included in this tour. Temperatures can drop below -30 Celsius degrees, or -22 Fahrenheit, and since this tour is not about sitting in the bus as a main objective – proper clothes and equipment is very important.
